Mission-Vision-Strategic planning

MISSION and VISION planning -

Imagine looking forward to going to work each day, fully engaged, with a clear understanding of why your organization exists and the important part you play in what they are trying to accomplish. The organization mission, vision, values, and strategic plan are clear and ones you feel a strong connection to. When friends ask you where you work and what you do, you can easily tell them and feel good about your work purpose.

People can be genuinely inspired when they can see a clear vision and mission statement they can support. We can help craft a  powerful, clear, concise mission and vision statement.

Mission statements define the "why" of the organization, its purpose and primary objectives. Using present tense, it explains an organization exists to: ex: End hunger. The mission statement is used for both internal and external purposes to inform and engage staff, stakeholders, funders, and customers. Mission statements are best when they are short, clear, powerful, and easily understood..

Vision statements define the ideal "what" of the organization.  It also defines the purpose and goals, and should be crafted to be inspirational. ex: Unite with others to develop and implement strategies to empower the hungry to secure ongoing means to keep their household fed. They should be crafted to still be relevant, even if specific strategies and collaborations change.

Might be obvious, but  mission and values statements need to be aligned. They should also be inspiring to people both internally and externally, and can easily be memorized by staff.

STRATEGIC PLANNING -

Conduct an organizational review:

  • What does success looks like and how will you know if you have achieved it?
  • List the most important goals, indicators,  ands measures of success for the organization
  • List the "how" these things will get done.
  •  Determine if the current "hows" are in alignment with the mission, vision, goals, and measures and identify gaps.
  • Eliminate or modify those things not in alignment,
  • Assess gaps that are contributing to not fully meeting organizational objectives
  • Determine what is and is not  adding value to the customer experience.
  • Engage in strategic planning on how to fill the gaps, gain efficiencies, determine what needs to be added and what needs to be taken away or modified.
  • Develop process improvement teams and measures to move work forward
